A superb detailed period photograph of the Ford Capri RS2600 competition V6 engine at the 1971 Spa 24 Hours at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium.Developed for Ford's formidable European Touring Car Championship programme, the Capri RS2600 used a heavily modified version of Ford's Cologne V6 engine, enlarged to approximately 2.9 litres and equipped with Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection.Clearly visible in this photograph are the distinctive six individual intake trumpets, fuel-injection pipework and other competition modifications used on the racing V6.The works Ford Köln Capri RS2600 programme was one of the dominant forces in European touring-car racing during this period, and the Dieter Glemser / Àlex Soler-Roig Capri won the 1971 Spa 24 Hours.An excellent close-up record of the engineering behind one of the most successful European touring cars of the early 1970s.Original period black-and-white motorsport photograph – Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, July 1971
